Dear President Erickson and the members of the Lutheran Church New Zealand, and in particular Pastor Lipsys and members at Christchurch,
At this time of horrific devastation, the General Church Council is meeting in Adelaide (sister city to Christchurch by coincidence) and along with the National Church Office Staff and the College of President we have been praying for you.
I can assure you brothers and sisters in Christ that the pastors and people of the whole church are praying for you. We are looking at setting up a fund for relief which can be given to you as you reel from the shock and take stock of the situation from which ongoing trauma will result.
‘God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though
though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in
the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble
with its tumult.’ Psalm 46:1-4
Yours in Christ,
Mike
